The Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tamekloe, has criticized former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent remarks on leadership and innovation. Apenewsgh reports
Dr. Bawumia had told a gathering of over 200 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives that despite not being rich, he possesses “rich ideas” to propel Ghana forward. This statement was made during one of his early engagements ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer contest for the 2028 general elections.
Reacting to Dr. Bawumia’s comment, Tamekloe took to Facebook to mock the assertion, linking it to Ghana’s economic challenges during Dr. Bawumia’s tenure as Chairman of the Economic Management Team. “His so-called rich ideas took the exchange rate to GHS17 to the dollar,” Tamekloe wrote, referencing the significant depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi. This comment highlights the economic woes Ghana faced under Dr. Bawumia’s financial stewardship.
Tamekloe also advised Dr. Bawumia to be measured in his political ambition, saying, “Calm down. You lost an election barely six months ago.” This statement underscores Tamekloe’s perception of Dr. Bawumia’s recent activities as overly ambitious and lacking in humility.
This isn’t the first time Tamekloe has criticized Dr. Bawumia’s economic record. In May, Tamekloe described Dr. Bawumia’s remarks on the cedi’s recent gains as dishonest and pointed to the currency’s historic depreciation and skyrocketing inflation under his watch.
Tamekloe’s consistent criticism emphasizes the NDC’s stance on Dr. Bawumia’s economic policies and legacy.
