New Acting Executive Secretary Appointed to Lead PURC

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Shafic Suleman as its Acting Executive Secretary. Apexnewsgh reports

President John Dramani Mahama made the appointment under Section 33(1) of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission Act, 1997 (Act 538).

Dr. Suleman, a Senior Lecturer at the Institute for Oil and Gas Studies, University of Cape Coast, brings a wealth of expertise to the role. His areas of specialization include energy sustainability, petroleum and energy economics, energy policy and law, climate change, and risk management.

With an impressive academic background, Dr. Suleman holds a PhD in Energy and Sustainability from De Montfort University, UK, an MSc in Energy Management from Robert Gordon University, UK, a BA in Geography from KNUST, and an LLB from the University of Cape Coast. He is also a certified Energy Risk Professional (ERP) from GARP-USA.

Dr. Suleman will serve as Acting Executive Secretary pending board approval in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

The PURC has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumer interests and ensuring efficient utility service regulation. As the regulatory body overseeing electricity and water utility services in Ghana, PURC plays a vital role in promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency within the utilities sector.
