The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced a significant expansion of its health benefit coverage as part of its 20th-anniversary celebration.
The enhanced coverage will include dialysis patients, with patients under 18 and over 60 receiving all eight free dialysis sessions per month from June to December 2024.
Additionally, individuals aged 18-59 at select teaching hospitals will receive two dialysis sessions per month. This move is part of the government’s commitment to finding sustainable solutions for renal illnesses not currently covered.
The NHIS is funding this initiative through a GHC 2 million allocation from the NHIA Formula and a budget of GHC 2.4 million approved for Corporate Social Responsibility. This enhancement aims to provide vital support to needy and vulnerable patients.
