A war of words has erupted between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the state of Ghana’s economy. Apexnewsgh reports
Nhyiaeso Lawmaker Dr. Stephen Amoah has rejected claims by the NDC that the previous NPP government left a collapsed economy. Instead, he argues that the NPP handed over a thriving economy, citing the impressive 5.7% GDP growth rate in 2024.
Dr. Amoah has challenged the Finance Minister to disclose the growth inherited from the NPP and outline plans to sustain and improve it. “We did not leave a comatose economy for them to manage,” he emphasized, urging the NDC government to build on the foundations laid by the NPP. He also cautioned against presenting a politically motivated budget, advocating for holistic decisions that prioritize sustainability.
Echoing Dr. Amoah’s sentiments, Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr. Gideon Boako, noted that the NPP left behind an economy worth GHS 1.2 trillion, according to data from the Ghana Statistical Service. Dr. Boako expects the Finance Minister to acknowledge this achievement and outline plans to build on the progress made by the previous administration.
The recent GDP figures indicate that Ghana’s economy expanded by 5.7% in 2024, with growth slowing to 3.6% in the fourth quarter. Despite this, experts predict a positive medium-term growth outlook, with GDP growth projected to rise to 4.3% in 2025.
