The Upper East Regional Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Elvis Atia Awonekei Figo has hinted that despite the loss of votes for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the Binduri and Zibilla Constituency at the just ended Saturday’s Presidential Primaries, the party will still retain the Binduri Seat and recapture the lost Zebilla seat.
The Regional Secretary was very optimistic that despite Dr. Bawumia’s loss in the above areas, the NPP will not backslide in making sure they deliver those seats in 2024 for the party.
“We didn’t expect anything different from what has just happened. The result is overwhelming, and it speaks volumes. Am so happy that delegates have spoken in Bolgatanga with over 85 percent margin”.
“Of course, within the Bawku Zone, there were a lot of threats, a lot of confusion, we had a session of people who felt that their people would not go a certain way. People were being threatened and it had to take me, the regional chairman including MP, and others to tell the people to come out and vote and am so happy that the voter turnout was so great. So, we are able to tell where the problem is coming from”. He confirmed
He further describes the Presidential Primaries as a match between family members.
According to Mr. Figo, they only want people to freely give their messages and they have done that.
.
“So, we now know where the issues are…; and I can assure you that in 2024, we will retain the Binduri seat and win at least not less than two seats adding to Binduri making it 3 seats in the Bawku zone. We will retain the Binduri seat”. Elvis Atia Awonekei Figo told Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh in an interview after the Presidential primaries on Saturday.
The election was free and fair across the 15 constituencies in the region.
Results declared by the Electoral Commission (EC) say Hon. Kennedy Agyapong 2111, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia 5,218, Dr. Afriyie Akoto 190 and Francis Addai Nimoh 95.
