NPP’s Awal Mohammed Acknowledges Arrogance as Factor in 2024 Election Loss
Awal Mohammed, a communications member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has openly admitted that the party’s arrogance during its time in power contributed to its significant electoral defeat in the 2024 elections.
His candid remarks were made during an appearance on GHOne TV’s Breakfast Review, monitored by Apexnewsgh.
Reflecting on the NPP’s past, Mohammed confessed, “I’m agreeing that I was also arrogant. I was arrogant at that time. The party people are telling us that we were arrogant in power, and we admit it because it’s the reason we lost the election.” His admission highlights a growing acknowledgment within the party that its overconfidence may have alienated voters.
Mohammed also shared insights on the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2024 elections, Mahamudu Bawumia, who remains optimistic about the party’s future. Bawumia has promised that upon returning to power, “we’ll change it,” signaling a commitment to address the issues that contributed to their electoral loss.
Expressing a shared sentiment, Dr. Bawumia recently recognized the NPP’s “excessive arrogance” during its eight-year tenure under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. He noted that this attitude had fostered deep resentment among both citizens and supporters of the party, underscoring the need for a shift in approach as the NPP looks to regain public trust and support in future elections.
