NPP’s Leadership Discontent Led to NDC’s Victory, Says Asenso-Boakye

The National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) victory in the December 7, 2024, elections can be attributed to widespread dissatisfaction with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) leadership, according to Francis Asenso Boakye, Member of Parliament for Bantama. Apexnewsgh reports

Asenso-Boakye emphasized that the NDC’s success was not solely due to its campaign efforts but also a reflection of the people’s discontent with the NPP’s leadership.

Speaking to journalists in Kumasi on February 11, Asenso-Boakye urged NPP members and leadership to draw lessons from the outcome of the 2024 election. He highlighted a concerning trend of voter apathy, noting that a significant portion of Ghanaians refrained from voting, indicating a waning interest in politics.

In his constituency, Bantama, over 30,000 people did not vote, a phenomenon Asenso-Boakye described as a growing disillusionment among the electorate. This trend could have broader implications for political engagement in Ghana’s democratic processes.

Asenso-Boakye’s concerns echo the sentiments of many Ghanaians who feel disconnected from the political process. The low voter turnout in the 2024 elections, which was marred by voter apathy, is a clear indication of this growing disillusionment.

Experts attribute voter apathy to various factors, including negligence and distancing of government from voters, as well as a lack of education. In Ghana, studies have shown that these factors contribute significantly to voter apathy.

As Ghana grapples with the implications of voter apathy, Asenso-Boakye’s call to action serves as a reminder that the country’s democratic processes require active engagement from all citizens.
