The National Public Relations Officer for Physician Assistants Mohammed Ali Aminu has said their only crime is asking the government to employ them to serve Ghanaians.
Mr. Aminu who was speaking to DreamzFm a radio station in Bolgatanga monitored by Apexnewsgh.com said, they are looking at getting a quality health service to the rural areas just like is in abundance in the urban areas. “We all know in the cities, they don’t lack us. In the rural areas other workers when you post them there, is they won’t go. But for now, as we sit, the health centers, polyclinic, and even the district hospital in the consulting room those who perform the duties there are physician assistants and as we speak, we lack them”.
“We are telling the government that, the health centers that are running with one physician assistant who doubles as the head of other administrative public health work is not proper, that compromised the quality we are looking for” He stressed
There are some other health facilities without physician assistants at all, so, we are saying Ghanaians deserve better.
“Physician assistants, formerly we are called medical assistants, in fact, a lot of people call us doctors. We don’t see any difference between us and the doctors, unless doctors went into the theater, cut, and remove the babies other than that, you won’t see the difference between us”.
Meanwhile, asking whether members of Physician Assistants of Ghana have started leaving the country as a result of hardship and unemployment.
The PRO said, the Physician Assistant has been so caring and loving to Ghanaians. “As we speak, others are leaving the country because of conditions of service. But we the physician assistant, everybody is here ready to die for Ghana, ready to serve our country”. He said
He said, over 1500 Physicians would have left Ghana like others are doing, and imagine if we have left, what will become of Ghanaians? Now we are saying we love our country, we want to serve our country employ us and you want to arrest us for praying to you to get us a job, who does that?
Seven members of a group of physician assistants who were picketing over their delayed postings were picked up by the police and was taken to the Regional Police Command for breaching an earlier agreement over their mode of picketing.
