Dr. Omane Boamah, a medical doctor and Health Policy Planning and Financing Analyst, was vetted by the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. His approval marks the eighth nominee to be cleared by the House this week, awaiting the President’s swearing-in ceremony.

The Defence Minister-designate boasts an impressive educational background, having studied at the University of Ghana Medical School, the London School of Economics and Political Science, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and Harvard University.

Dr. Omane Boamah’s approval is part of a broader cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening the administration’s security and foreign policy teams. Other approved ministers include Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (Lands and Natural Resources), Tia Ibrahim (North East Region), Dr. Frank Amoakohene (Ashanti Region), and Akamugri Atanga Donatus (Upper East Region).

These newly approved ministers will join the 17 who have already been sworn in by the President. President Mahama had announced the nomination of his second batch of ministers on January 21, which included prominent figures like Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, and Kofi Iddie Adams.
