Parliament Approves GHC 4 Billion Budget for Ministry of Local Government

Parliament has given the green light to a GHC 4 billion budget allocation for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs for the 2025 fiscal year. Apexnewsgh reports

This substantial funding will be utilized to pay allowances for assembly members and traditional authorities, as well as support various programs and projects under the Ministry.

One of the notable initiatives planned is the establishment of a National Prayer Day, which aims to promote unity and spiritual reflection across the country. The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Agbodza, addressed concerns about the remuneration of assembly members, stating that their allowances will be part of the Common Fund formula, currently under consideration.

This development comes after Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, was approved by Parliament in January 2025. Ibrahim has pledged to focus on improving coordination between Members of Parliament and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives to deliver effective governance at the grassroots level.

The approved budget allocation is expected to support the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen local governance, promote economic empowerment, and foster collaboration between stakeholders.

As the Ministry embarks on its 2025 initiatives, Ghanaians will be watching closely to see the impact of this significant budget allocation.
