The ongoing power outages in Ghana have prompted the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy to instruct the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to release a load-shedding timetable. Apexnewsgh reports
This move aims to assist citizens in organizing their activities amid the unpredictable power cuts that have been affecting the country for weeks.
The decision to demand a schedule comes after demands for transparency and improved management of the energy crisis. Initially, Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, dismissed calls for a timetable, suggesting that individuals interested should create their own. However, the Mines and Energy Committee has stepped in, emphasizing the importance of providing a load management timetable to the public.
During a meeting with stakeholders in the power industry, ECG acknowledged the challenges in power distribution. Chairman of the Energy Committee of Parliament, Mr. Samuel Atta Akyea, stressed the need for transparency and effective planning. He affirmed the committee’s commitment to closely monitor the implementation of the load-shedding timetable.
Akyea stated, “If there are power outages, those affected should know when it will be available, so they can plan their lives around the timetable provided by ECG. We will do everything in our power to monitor them and ensure that they deliver on their promises.”
The move to provide a load-shedding timetable is seen as a step towards better management of the energy crisis and increased transparency in the power industry. Ghanaian citizens are hopeful that the schedule will bring some predictability to the ongoing power outages and help them plan their daily activities accordingly.
