In a spirited address at the Annual Ghana Bar Association Conference in Kumasi on Monday, September 9, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo vehemently denied allegations of corruption leveled against his government, family, and himself. Apexnewsgh reports
He accused opposition figures of orchestrating a politically motivated campaign to tarnish his reputation and that of his administration.
The President suggested that these allegations were a form of retaliation for the corruption claims against the previous John Mahama administration, which have resulted in criminal convictions and ongoing prosecutions. He emphasized his commitment to upholding due process in the fight against corruption, despite opposition leaders labeling him a “clearing agent.”
President Akufo-Addo highlighted his administration’s efforts to ensure accountability, maintain democratic values, and protect human rights.
He noted that mechanisms have been established to hold those who abuse their power accountable, and that Ghana has been a strong advocate for international law, human rights, and democracy on the global stage.
The President concluded by leaving it to the judgment of the Ghanaian public to decide whether his commitment to due process and the rule of law is preferable to the actions of his predecessors.
