President John Dramani Mahama has swiftly made interim ministerial appointments to ensure stability in key sectors of national governance.
The announcement came through a statement from Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, revealing the President’s decision to assign additional responsibilities to existing ministers. Effective immediately, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister for Finance, has been tasked with assuming the role of Minister for Defence. Meanwhile, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has been appointed to act as Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology until further notice.
These appointments come in response to the sudden passing of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, both of whom tragically lost their lives along with six others in the military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, in the Adansi Akrofuom District. The ministers were en route to Obuasi for a government assignment when the incident took place, shocking the nation.
As the country mourns the loss of these distinguished public servants, flags are currently flying at half-mast across the nation. The Ghana Armed Forces and relevant state agencies have launched a formal investigation into the cause of the crash, as the impact of this tragedy continues to resonate throughout the country.
In the coming days, President Mahama is expected to lead a state tribute to honor the deceased, as preparations for their official funerals begin. The swift response by the President underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining continuity and stability during this difficult time for Ghana.
