The new ambassadors include Madam Laura Ranalli of Italy, Mr. Julio Enrique Pujol Torres of Cuba, Mrs. Musu Jatu Ruhle of Liberia, Dr. Abdulla Muraid Sulaiman Mohammed Al Mandoos of the United Arab Emirates, and Mr. Ali Ghomshi of Iran.
During the ceremony, President Mahama highlighted the historical ties between Ghana and Italy, noting that this was the first credential ceremony since he assumed office on January 7. He emphasized that Italy’s presence is a strong symbol of the enduring friendship between the two nations.
President Mahama also discussed energy cooperation with Italian Ambassador Madam Laura Ranalli, revealing that he recently held talks with Mr. Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Italian energy giant ENI. He expressed satisfaction with the resolution of previous challenges and confirmed that ENI remains committed to investing in Ghana’s energy sector. Currently, ENI supplies nearly 60% of Ghana’s total gas for power generation, with further collaboration with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) in the pipeline.
The President acknowledged Italy’s significant contributions to Ghana’s development, citing major engineering projects such as the Akosombo and Kpone hydroelectric dams. These projects have played a crucial role in Ghana’s power generation and economic growth.
