President Bola Tinubu has immediately suspended Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

This decision is in line with Tinubu’s strong commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in the management of Nigeria’s resources.

According to a statement from Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Tinubu has directed the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to thoroughly investigate all financial transactions related to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as well as its associated agencies.

Dr. Betta Edu, the suspended Minister, has been instructed to hand over her duties to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. She is also expected to fully cooperate with the investigating authorities.

Additionally, Tinubu has established a panel led by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance.

This panel’s main goal is to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the financial structure and framework of the social investment programs. Its objective is to reform the relevant institutions and programs, aiming to address any weaknesses and regain public trust.

These directives from the President are effective immediately.
