Rex Owusu Marfo, popularly known as Rex Omar and recognized for his leadership in the Black Stars Experience, spoke passionately about the detrimental effects of illegal mining, or galamsey, on Ghana’s international reputation.
During an appearance on the Citizens’ Show with Kwabena Bobie Ansah, Mr. Owusu Marfo voiced his concern that galamsey not only endangers the environment but also undermines national efforts to position Ghana positively on the world stage.
He emphasized that initiatives such as the Black Stars Experience, which harnesses the influence of Ghana’s national football team to promote tourism, investment, and national pride, are being threatened by continued environmental degradation.
“Galamsey is undermining our efforts to promote Ghana’s image globally through the Black Stars Experience,” he remarked, highlighting the contradiction between the government’s vision of a progressive, vibrant country and the reality of environmental destruction.
Rex Omar called on all Ghanaians to unite in combating illegal mining, stressing that the preservation of Ghana’s natural resources is not only vital for the environment but also crucial for safeguarding the nation’s global standing and ensuring the success of flagship branding initiatives.
