The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), working in close partnership with the Auditor-General’s office, has announced an impressive recovery of more than GH¢12.9 billion in misappropriated public funds.
In recent weeks, PAC members have been meeting with officials from numerous ministries, departments, and agencies, seeking answers and accountability for financial infractions highlighted in the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report.
These engagements have put the spotlight on public sector finances and reinforced the importance of transparency in government operations.
On Wednesday, October 1, PAC Chairperson Abena Osei-Asare attributed this significant achievement to the Committee’s strong collaboration with the Auditor-General. “One thing I am clear about is that what we are doing is yielding positive results. We have a report we will look at. Per the work of the Public Accounts Committee, and with the support of the Auditor-General, we have been able to retrieve GH¢12.9 billion. There is a whole report on that which we will be sharing with the public at the right time,” she explained.
The Committee’s efforts have been widely praised as a major step toward restoring public confidence in financial governance. PAC is scheduled to resume its sittings on October 27, 2025, with further scrutiny of government accounts expected to continue.
