The voter registration process in the Bawku District, Upper East Region, has been temporarily suspended, according to Mr William Obeng Adarkwah, the Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC).

This decision comes after residents expressed dissatisfaction with having only one registration machine and even threatened to attack the registration personnel.

The suspension has been put in place to ensure the safety of the staff and prevent any potential conflicts. Mr Adarkwah has assured that the EC is committed to a smooth and peaceful registration process for all eligible citizens.

A dialogue with the concerned residents is scheduled for Monday, September 18, 2023, in order to find a mutually agreeable solution to the registration challenges in the Bawku District.
