Renowned evangelist and founder of Worldwide Miracle Outreach, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, has issued a heartfelt apology to the University of Ghana (UG) following controversy sparked by his remarks on GTV’s Breakfast Show. Apexnewsgh reports
On October 24, 2024, Rev. Dr. Tetteh claimed that a “significant number” of UG students were HIV-positive, attributing this to “promiscuous behavior on campus.” His comments quickly stirred public concern, criticism, and fears of stigma.
The University responded swiftly, emphasizing the need for evidence-based discussions around HIV/AIDS. They stressed that public comments without data-backed evidence can lead to fear and stigma, and that accurate HIV diagnosis can only be obtained through scientific methods.
Rev. Dr. Tetteh clarified his intention, expressing regret for any distress caused. He explained that his comments aimed to address broader societal issues impacting youth, rather than targeting UG students specifically.
“I apologize sincerely to the University of Ghana and the public for any distress my comments may have caused,” Rev. Dr. Tetteh said. “My views stemmed from years of counseling young people facing personal challenges.”
The evangelist reiterated his commitment to confidentiality and acknowledged the unintended consequences of his remarks. He assured the public that his aim was not to spread fear or stigma but to raise awareness of youth-related social issues.
