In an upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA) to be delivered to Parliament on February 27, 2024, former National Chairman for the People’s National Convention (PNC), Mr. Bernard Mornah, has called for President Nana Akufo-Addo to acknowledge his shortcomings and offer an apology to Ghanaians.
Mr. Mornah expressed his expectations during an interview on the Class Morning Show, stating that he hopes President Akufo-Addo will admit his failures and express regret for not meeting the expectations of the nation. He believes that the President should apologize and acknowledge that the current state of the nation is not what he had hoped for, but that he hopes his successor will continue to build on the positives he has left behind.
The upcoming SONA is prescribed by Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates the President to deliver a message on the State of the Nation at the beginning of each session and before the dissolution of Parliament.
This address serves as a platform for the President to outline the government’s key policy objectives for the year ahead and provide insights into strategies aimed at improving the economic conditions of the country.
Given that this will be President Akufo-Addo’s last presentation to Parliament during his current term in office, the upcoming address holds particular significance.
It will be an opportunity for the President to communicate the administration’s plans and priorities to both the legislative body and the nation as a whole.
