The Special Prosecutor has made adjustments to the charges against the former chief executive officer of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), Adjenim Boateng Adjei. Apexnewsgh reports
Initially facing 17 charges, Adjei now faces eight new charges, while all charges against his brother-in-law, Francis Arhin, have been dropped.
The new charges against Adjei revolve around allegations of using his position in public office for personal gain and allegedly influencing procurement processes to gain unfair advantages in contract awards.
This change in charges signifies a shift in the prosecution’s strategy after extensive cross-examination of the prosecution’s witness, investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, over the course of a year.
The case originated from accusations raised in August 2019 when Awuni’s documentary, ‘Contract for Sale,’ implicated Adjei in misusing his authority at the PPA to benefit Talent Discovery Limited in contract allocations.
While Adjei faced dismissal from his position as CEO of PPA by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo following the release of the documentary, his brother-in-law, Francis Kwaku Arhin, was initially charged in connection to Talent Discovery Limited but has since been cleared of all allegations.
The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) recommended Adjei’s removal from office based on the revelations in the ‘Contract for Sale’ documentary. The ongoing case continues to unfold as the prosecution adjusts its charges in response to new developments.
