NDC Primaries: Navrongo Central Constituency and what the outcome is likely to be after counting of ballot

The Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be going to the poll on May 13, 2023, for their internal flagbearership and parliamentary primaries. Apexnewsgh.com, as part of our usual public view seeking ahead of party elections in the Upper East region, has conducted extensive views and opinions from the people of the Navrongo Central Constituency regarding the National Democratic Party internal primaries Sampson Tangombu Chiragia: ‘Is a tax expert. Before becoming an MP, he was working at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). He is an auditor’. ‘He has been the Pilar or the cornerstone of Navrongo politics. He contested Mark Woyongo in the 2012 primaries and lost. He has been the party financier for long’. ‘Sampson has been consistent when it comes to loyalty, he has been very supportive of the party. Basically, this is the strength he has over other candidates’. ‘He has also organized some health outreach, bought motorbikes for the health directorate, renovate some schools, secure some furniture, and also bought computers, and math sets for BECE students’. ‘He is the one who has made the party attractive in Navrongo because those days, people were not interested to be known as part of NDC’. ‘When Kofi Adda came, a lot of people were afraid and no one could win Kofi Adda because Kofi Adda was having the people at heart and he was able to win the heart of Navrongo Central until Kofi Adda left the political scene that is when a lot of people are now beginning to show interest’. We gathered Simon Aworigo Akibange: Is the NDC UK Ireland Chapter Secretary. He has been assisting the party in certain ways. He adopted the party some time ago and was giving the party Ghc 400.00 every month. ‘Aside from that, he even bought laptop for the party and some other accessories that will help equipped the party office’. The contest is between Simon and Sampson. He has come with a different tribal Rambo style campaign because he is a Nankana by tribe. He is said is their time, according to those from Nankana’s speaking areas, they equally want to test the Parliamentary position as the people of Kessena have tested for long. No ‘Nankana’ person has become an MP in the history of Navrongo. So currently, the contest is between the Sampson faction and the Simon faction. Sampson is gaining some ground because of incumbency, if not that, it wouldn’t have been easy for Sampson. Because Sampson has not managed so many things well. A lot of people are not happy with the way he goes about doing things. Dr. Jacob Paarechuga Anankware;   “His contributions to the party are well-reorganized. He has been able to award brilliant but needy students in his constituency.  Dr. Jacob contested the current MP in 2018 and lost. This is his second contest together with the MP”. Lawyer Pius Ayemva Avio: Is a party member in good standing. But we also gathered that contribution-wise, they say, they cannot point what he has contributed to the party. However, in this contest, factionalism cannot be swept under the carpet as far as Navrongo is politics is concerned. Currently, they are able to get a Nankana person who is Simon Akibange. Remember, the 3 people contesting from the Navrongo area are coming from the Kessena-speaking area. They are telling delegates that this is the time to get their share of the Parliamentary seat. The people from Nankana speaking area are claiming their roads are deplorable and has not been given any attention because they have not gotten the opportunity to serve as MP in the history of Navrongo party politics. Our Prediction: We observed that the incumbent Sampson Tangombu Chiragia is facing a tough battle. We observed that the Nankana factor used by Simon Aworigo Akibange as a campaign message against the incumbent is becoming a very dangerous weapon causing much harm to the incumbent because delegates are buying into such ideology. We observed that votes from the Kassem-speaking area will be shared among the 3 candidates Sampson Tangombu Chiragia, Dr. Jacob Paarechuga Anankware, and Lawyer Pius Ayemva Avio. The signals we have received show that if the incumbent didn’t play his game perfectly well, Simon Aworigo Akibange might take that advantage.   However, upon all these signals and controversies, we are still confident the incumbent MP will emerge victorious at the end of the day with his only saviour being the power of incumbency. For the Flagbearership, John Dramani Mahama will get over 75.5 percent ahead of his other contenders Dr. Kwabena Duffour, a former Minister of Finance and Mr. Kojo Bonsu, a former Mayor of Kumasi will share the rest of the votes.
