Fabio Gama scores in Asante Kotoko drubbing of Bechem United

Fabio Gama put up a man of the match performance on Wednesday to help Asante Kotoko cruise to a 4-0 win over Bechem United in a Ghana Premier League match day 16 outstanding game at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium. The Brazilian set up the first goal and scored the second before showing class in one of his brilliant outings since he signed for the former champions. Gama combined effectively with Augustine Okrah, Ibrahim Moro and Andy Kumi in the larger part of the game by rewarding the technical team for keeping faith in him. New recruit Michael Vinícius Silva also scored in an eventful Samba day for Asante Kotoko. Christopher Nettey, Naby Keita and Latif Anabila made way for Samuel Frimpong, Habib Mohammed and new signing Francis Andy Kumi. Abdul Ganiu Ismail netted first inside 13 minutes after he was set up by Fabio Gama following a free kick. Gama increased the tally for Asante Kotoko seconds before the half time whistle after latching onto a pass from Augustine Okrah. By the 60th minute, the game was far kfrom the reach of Bechem as new signing Andy Kumi prodded home a sweet cross from the left. With eight minutes of the game remaining, Vinicius Silva capped his Kotoko debut with a goal as he pounced on a rebound to tap home. This win has lifted Kotoko to third in the standings with 31 points, two points behind leaders Great Olympics and one adrift second placed Karela United. The Porcupine Warriors will next take on Berekum Chelsea on Sunday. Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Contact: 0555568093

GPL: Elmina Sharks beat lackluster Asante Kotoko

Kumasi Asante Kotoko lost their first game on the road this season in the Ghana Premier League against struggling Elmina Sharks at the Paa Kwasi Nduom Stadium. The porcupine warriors who have been stricken by injury worries rang changes to their squad as Wahab Adams and Mudasiru Salifu were handed starts. The game started brightly as both teams had chances to have opened the scores of the game but they wasted the opportunities that came their way. Kwame Opoku shot goalwards after beating the Sharks goalkeeper but his goal bound effort was cleared off the line by his defense. Elmina Sharks had all the chances but wasted them and had about three penalty appeals waved away by the center referee. When the second half began, they made their dominance count as Alhaji Mustapha ghosted past left back Imoro Ibrahim before slotting home in the 55th minute to open the scores. Kotoko pressed for the elusive equalizer which never arrived as they wasted opportunities which came their way. It was the first game for former Ghana and Kotoko player Nii Odartey Lamptey who was appointed interim coach of the club last week after Sharks dissolved their technical team. Asante Kotoko CEO pleads with gov’t to speed up renovation works at Baba Yara Sports Stadium

Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer Nana Yaw Amponsah has appealed to the government to speed up with renovation works currently ongoing at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The Baba Yara Sports Stadium which serves as the home venue for Asante Kotoko and King Faisal has been closed down for over a year for renovation works to be carried out. The Porcupine Warriors have relocated to the Accra Sports Stadium to use the venue for their home games in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League as well as in the CAF Inter-club competition. Nana Yaw Amponsah believes the Accra Sports Stadium hasn’t been favourable for his side in the ongoing season as the team has performed better in their away games, juxtaposing it with games played in Accra. He appealed to the government to help the team return to their traditional venue. “We all know that Accra Sports Stadium is not our home. Our home is the Baba Yara Sports Stadium”, Nana Yaw Amponsah told the media after Kotoko’s goalless draw against ES Setif in Algeria. “This time we haven’t lost any match away from the Accra Sports Stadium, which is a very good record. So we will plead with the government to help us so we can go back to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium so they should speed up with the renovation works”, he added. Asante Kotoko have a big game coming up against their arch-rivals Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday 28 February 2021. The Porcupine Warriors will be the home team in this fixture due to the adoption of the Accra Sports Stadium as their home venue in the ongoing season. They currently share the same venue with arch-rivals Hearts of Oak. Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Contact: 0555568093

Update: Augustine Sefah has not quit football to become a fetish priest

GhanaWeb can exclusively report that the viral photo depicting someone who looks like former Asante Kotoko defender, Augustine Sefah as a fetish priest is a case of mistaken identity. This platform on Thursday, January 14, 2021, published a story asking if defender Augustine Sefah has quit football to become a fetish priest. However, our puzzle has been solved as the identity of the man who was seen dressed in a white priest gown with powder all over his body and a leaf rope around his neck has now been revealed. He came to the premises of GhanaWeb today, January 15, 2021, to prove that he is the one in the photo and not Augustine Sefah. The man identified himself as Nii Afrankah, the Chief of Dunshie in Awoshie-Sowutoum. This proves that Nii Afrankah’s identity was mistaken for that of Augustine Sefah. He didn’t like the fact that his identity was mistaken for that of the former Kotoko player. He demanded an apology. Below is the story that was initially published yesterday: Has Augustine Sefah quits football to become a fetish priest? Former Asante Kotoko defender, Augustine Sefah, has been reportedly ordained as a fetish priest. A viral picture circulating on various social media platform which has been sighted by GhanaWeb allegedly showed that the right-back has ditched football to become a priest. The defender who left Asante Kotoko before the commencement of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season was seen dressed in a white priest gown with powder all over his body and a leaf rope around his neck. Augustine Sefah was with three other people when the picture in question was taken. It is, however, not clear if the picture was photoshopped or the right-back has actually become a fetish priest in his hometown. Kotoko bounce back to victory against Dreams FC

Asante Kotoko beat Dreams 1-0 to win their first match following the dismissal of coach Maxwell Konadu. The Porcupine Warriors, under the guidance of interim coach Johnson Smith, produced an improved performance to secure the victory at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu. The win means Kotoko have ended a troubled weak on a high note. The pre-match discussion had been dominated by Kotoko’s off-field issues. Following the sacking of Konadu, communications manager Moses Antwi-Benefo surprisingly resigned. They were also reports that other members of the management team were contemplating stepping down. Despite being fully aware of the issues, the players did not seem affected and made a great start which resulted in Ibrahim Imoro scoring in the 20th minute. The defender unleashed an accurate shot into the back of the net from the edge of the box. Kotoko managed to hold onto the lead to record their second win of the season which takes them to the top half of the table.
