Carlos Ahenkorah asked Ghanaians to avoid using MoMo, if they can’t pay E-Levy

Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema West constituency, has asked Ghanaians who do not want to pay the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) to avoid using Mobile Money Services. In response to Justice for Ghana protestors who were in Parliament to register displeasure, the MP pointed that the E-levy is targeting people who have the opportunity and ability to send money through that system and not the poor. “It is not a compulsory tax, if you don’t do MoMo you don’t pay so if you don’t want to pay don’t do MoMo, it’s as simple as that,” he reiterated. “What I am telling them is that they don’t seem to understand what is going on. They should forget about what they are doing and rather let’s see how we can assist the government to run this country.” “This budget that we are talking about, an amount of $5million is coming from the E-levy thing to as it were support the expenditures. If we decide that we don’t want the E-levy anymore, so the government should take it out. It means that the government has to go and borrow that 5million from outside to come and support the budget.” “The government cannot find money anywhere unless you and I contribute into the kitty for the development we are looking for. Everybody want good road and free school thus free education. Where does the government going to get the money from,” he stressed. Election of Speaker: Carlos Ahenkorah snatches ballot sheets

Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, the Member of Parliament-elect for Tema West snatched some ballot papers during counting. After the counting of votes for Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye was done, the MP-elect snatched the ballot papers from the Clerks-at-table and bolted with it. Prior to the snatching of the ballot papers, the NDC members were singing and jubilating that their Speaker-nominee Alban Bagbin had won the secret ballots. Ahenkora, was chased by Asawase MP-elect Muntaka Mohammed who accosted him and retrieved the ballot papers. The MPs-elect must now elect first and second deputy speakers. Armed military personnel storm Chamber of Parliament amidst chaos over secret voting Earlier, the election of the Leadership of the 8th Parliament degenerated into a full-blown crisis with armed military personnel storming the chamber of Parliament to restore order. In a very dramatic low-point for Ghana’s democracy, the MPs-elect who had argued all night over the secret ballot protocol were visited in the chamber by about two dozen heavily-armed soldiers in addition to a similar number of armed police personnel. The armed to teeth military men clashed with MPs who sang and chanted patriotic songs including the national anthem. The MPs chanted in the face of the military urging them to leave; that the military had no right to order them to sit down. At this stage, the NPP MPs sat down, apparently comfortable with the presence of the police and soldiers. The soldiers had stormed the chamber after yet another chaos broke out over the election of the Speaker of Parliament. While the NPP preferred that their Chief Whips should inspect the ballots by their Members-elect, the NDC, on the other hand, were insistent on secret ballot as enshrined in the Standing Orders. This resulted in the MP for Asawase Muntaka Mubarak snatching a ballot box and throwing it away. Later, the ballot boxes and voting boots were again disassembled by angry MPs. Unforgettable: Akufo Addo’s appointees who lost their positions in 2020 due to….

Mr. Adjei was investigated by CHRAJ for corruption and conflict of interest after he was accused of sidestepping procurement procedures for personal gains. He was captured in an investigative piece put together by freelance journalist, Manasseh Awuni Azure in 2019. He was subsequently suspended by the President in August 2019. President Akufo-Addo revoked the appointment of Deputy Minister of Communications Vincent Sowah Odotei. A statement signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, said the MP for Gomoa West and current deputy minister for Health Alexander Kodwo Kom Abban now moves to the Communication Ministry as a Deputy Minister. It added that Dr. Bernard Oko-Boye, MP for Ledzokuku is now Deputy Minister-designate for Health. A Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Carlos Ahenkorah resigned from his position. This comes after he admitted breaching COVID-19 protocols by visiting a registration centre despite being aware that he has tested positive for the virus. The statement from the president’s office urged public officials to “provide leadership, at all times, for adherence to the protocols that have been established to help the nation defeat COVID-19.” But unfortunately, the Handsome  young Minister was captured rather dancing Azonto style with those believe to be his supporters However, Martin Amidu also resigned as the Special Prosecutor and his resignation came as a to surprise every Ghanaian. Below is Martin Amidu’s full statement sighted by Apexnewsgh.com; This is to inform the public that I resigned from my position as the Special Prosecutor of the Office of the Special Prosecutor with immediate effect upon the submission of my letter of resignation with reference number OSP/2/AM/14 dated 16th November 2020 which was received at the Office of the President at 15:15 HRS this afternoon. I should not ordinarily be announcing my resignation to the public myself but the traumatic experience I went through from 20th October 2020 to 2nd November 2020 when I conveyed in a thirteen (13) page letter the conclusions and observations on the analysis of the risk of corruption and anti-corruption assessment on the Report On Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions and Other Matters Related Thereto to the President as Chairman of the National Security Council cautions against not bringing my resignation as the Special Prosecutor with immediate to the notice of the Ghanaian public and the world. In undertaking the analysis of the risk of prevention of corruption and anti-corruption assessment I sincerely believed that I was executing an independent mandate under the Office of the Special Prosecutor, Act, 2017 (Act 959) and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (Operations) Regulations, 2018 (L. I. 2374). The reaction I received for daring to produce the Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions anti-corruption report convinces me beyond any reasonable doubt that I was not intended to exercise any independence as the Special Prosecutor in the prevention, investigation, prosecution, and recovery of assets of corruption. My position as the Special Prosecutor has consequently become clearly untenable. It is essential for me to state for the purpose of the records, and contrary to public perceptions, that my appointment letter was received on 5th February 2020 (almost two (2)-years after my appointment). The copy addressees made no efforts to honour any of the conditions of appointment in terms of emoluments and benefits of the appointment ever since my warrant of appointment was issued on 23rd February 2018 to the date of my letter of resignation. I accepted the offer on 10th January 2018 to be nominated to be Special Prosecutor because Mr. President, and Ghanaians knew I have been an anti-corruption crusader all my life and not an anti-corruption entrepreneur. This explains why I have never put the emoluments and benefits of the Office as central to my commitment and my passion for the establishment of an independent, effective, efficient and impartial anti-corruption Office of the Special Prosecutor before the end of the first term of Mr. President. This has not been possible for several reasons. The Deputy Special Prosecutor has also not been paid any emoluments since her appointment, and there is the need to redress that situation for her now that I am out of the way. The events of 12th November 2020 removed the only protection I had from the threats and plans directed at me for undertaking the Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions anti-corruption assessment report and dictates that I resign as the Special Prosecutor immediately. Fear is the enemy of change and I am prepared from the vacuum created on 12th November 2020 to meet the threats of my demise as the price to pay for serving my country without fear or favour affection or ill will. I acted professionally through out in the discharge of my duties and my conscience is the anchor of my strength to face any consequences. I am grateful to every Ghanaian for both the support and criticisms during my tenure. When the real facts of my tenure become well known to the public in the future, history may judge me kindly. Ghana First! MARTIN A. B. K. AMIDU, ESQ However, President Akufo Addo accepted Mr. Martin Amidu’s resignation in a a letter below. Acceptance Letter An acceptance letter directed by the President and signed by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, titled: Re: Resignation of Appointment As Special Prosecutor, said “this is to acknowledge receipt of your letter, dated November 16, 2020 (Ref: OSP/2/AM.14) addressed to the President of the Republic conveying to him your decision to resign from the Office of the Special Prosecutor. The President has taken due note of the other matters raised in your letter and the government will issue a statement responding to them in due course.” The letter said “the President has directed me to ensure that all emoluments and benefits due you under law are paid to you accordingly,” adding “The President thanks you for your service to the State and wished you the best in your future endeavors.” This article was together by Apexnewsgh.com,  a groundbreaking and outstanding news website Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie
