Manipulated elections can have severe consequence– Donatus Akamugri warns

Donatus Akamugri, the Upper East Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed concerns that the Electoral Commission’s actions and inactions may hinder a fair 2024 general election. Apexnewsgh reports Speaking to Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen during the “Enough is Enough” demonstration in Bolgatanga, Akamugri stated that since Jean Mensa’s appointment as Electoral Commission Chairperson, numerous issues have arisen, and the Commission has been unresponsive to the NDC’s suggestions. The NDC’s concerns stem from an expose that revealed irregularities in the voter register exhibition. Despite calling for a live broadcast to address these issues, the Electoral Commission declined, and further requests for auditing were met with resistance. Akamugri emphasized that the anomalies in the voter register cannot be resolved without a forensic audit. The demonstration aimed to draw attention to these concerns, urging Ghanaians and international bodies to intervene and ensure the Electoral Commission reconsiders its decision. Akamugri warned that manipulated elections can have severe consequences and stressed the need for trust in the Electoral Commission. This development comes amid Ghana’s preparations for the 2024 elections, with the NDC seeking a level playing field for all parties. The Electoral Commission’s actions have raised concerns about the country’s electoral process, sparking calls for transparency and fairness. As the 2024 elections approach, the NDC’s concerns highlight the importance of addressing these issues to ensure a credible and peaceful electoral process. NAPO is Not a Presidential Material–Donatus Akamugri

The Upper East Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Donatus Akamugri, has dismissed the presidential ambitions of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate, citing his controversial behavior and conduct. Apexnewsgh reports The Regional Secretary spoke to Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh on “SPEAKOUT UPPER EAST” on Thursday July 11. According to Akamugri, NAPO’s comments during his unveiling ceremony in Kumasi, where he touted President Akufo-Addo’s development record as unparalleled in Ghana’s history, came as no surprise to the NDC. “We are all aware of his behavior and conduct. So, we think that NAPO is not a Presidential material. Because for you to be a presidential material, you must be a balanced figure,” Akamugri said. NAPO’s remarks, which seemed to belittle Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and his development achievements, have sparked outrage among opposition supporters. The NDC secretary questioned Dr. Bawumia’s decision to choose NAPO as his running mate, given his history of insulting various groups, including diploma teachers and the people of Keta. Akamugri emphasized that the presidency requires empathy, respect, and emotional intelligence, qualities he believes NAPO lacks. “Presidency is not for anybody who looks into people and insults them…if you have a character that can open his mouth and insult everybody, then it’s a big problem,” he stressed.
