GJA Aspirant Charles Mawusi Engages Members in Upper East Region

The aspiring National President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Charles Mawusi, has taken his campaign to the Upper East Region, where he engaged members of the association in good standing. Apexnewsgh reports During the engagement, Mr. Mawusi outlined his ideas for improving the welfare of members, focusing on developing the GJA’s conference center land. Mr. Mawusi proposed developing the land into a hostel facility that would cater to members from other regions visiting Accra. He suggested that members could access the hostel at a minimal fee or have a certain number of free nights per year. This initiative, he believes, would be a significant step in improving member welfare. Additionally, Mr. Mawusi proposed revamping the cafeteria at the conference center, where a vendor would be responsible for cooking, while the GJA would control the sale of drinks. He estimated that at least GHc1.00 from each bottle of drink sold would go into the GJA’s coffers. He also suggested turning part of the cafeteria into an event center for weddings and other activities, leveraging the strategic location of the GJA office to generate revenue. Mr. Mawusi emphasized that these initiatives would not only improve member welfare but also generate revenue for the GJA. He is developing the conference center land and creating an event center, and the association would be able to tap into the potential of its strategic location and create new streams of income. He pleaded with members to vote for him as their next GJA president. The election will be held on June 30, 2025, across the region. Source: Apexnewsgh.com/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen

Ghana Journalists Association to Receive ID Cards After 10-Year Wait

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is set to receive its membership ID cards this week, courtesy of Margins Group, a Ghanaian company specializing in secure identity solutions, card manufacturing, and digitalization services. Apexnewsgh reports The development comes after months of negotiations between the two parties, with KGL Group sponsoring the production of the membership ID cards. To facilitate the production of the ID cards, members are requested to send a soft copy (jpg) of their passport-size picture taken on a white background to gja.passportphoto@gmail.com. The picture must be of good quality, and ‘selfies’ are not acceptable. Members are also required to provide detailed information, including their name, organization, region, and contact. The printing, issuing, and delivering of the membership ID cards will be done according to the order of receipt of the passport-size pictures. The exercise will begin with the list of members in good standing as published in the national dailies recently, before attending to other members. The current administration of the GJA, led by Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, had promised to address the challenge of issuing membership ID cards three years ago. After a decade-long wait, the association is finally set to deliver ID cards to its members. “I am very excited to see this day come finally, and I believe members will be equally excited about this development,” Dwumfour said, expressing gratitude to Margins Group and KGL Group for helping to redeem the promise. GJA Election: Dwumfour Woos Upper East Region Members with Vision for GJA’s Future

The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has made a strong case for re-election, stating that his leadership has redefined journalism in Ghana and restored the association’s respect and authority. Apexnewsgh reports He made the pronouncement during his recent campaign in Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional capital. Engaging members of the Upper East GJA, Mr. Dwumfour said the GJA has undergone a significant transformation under his tenure moving from an “inactive” to a “proactive” institution capable of holding power to account. “It would be painful to start building something, lay the foundation, and not be allowed to complete it. According to Mr. Dwumfour,  before he became president, the GJA wasn’t regarded. But today, the association is respected, and that means we are doing something right,” he said. He added that the GJA now commands respect in national discourse, citing recent bold actions such as blacklisting politicians who attack journalists as signs of a stronger and more assertive media body. “For the first time under my administration, we were called a legacy administration. But we’ve only achieved 40% of our vision. There’s a long way to go, and that is why a second term is necessary—to secure this legacy,” he stressed. Mr. Dwumfour’s comments come as he formally declares his intention to seek re-election as GJA President, promising to consolidate the gains made and push for deeper reforms to empower the media as the “Fourth Estate of the Realm.” With his leadership, Mr. Dwumfour is confident that the GJA will continue to thrive and play a vital role in Ghana’s media landscape.
