UER: See What A Queen Mother Said About Government As She Sheds Tears

Government owes me three months of my salary after sacking me from my catering job-Queen mother sheds tears. Queen Mother for the Kongo Community, Madam Elizabeth Atobiga in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region has cried out to government, political parties, and the various presidential and parliamentary candidates to consider empowering them whenever they are in power. She said most of the queen mothers in the five regions of the north are uneducated, have no jobs, and struggle to make ends meet. She added that they sometimes incur debts in order to play their leadership roles in their communities. The queen’s mother made this appeal during the commissioning of a CHPS facility at Kongo-Wondanbiih in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region. She recounted how she was sacked from her job as a caterer under the school feeding programme. She expressed disappointment at the current government for revoking her appointment as a caterer, an appointment she had during John Mahama’s administration. “When John Mahama was in power, the school feeding programme was under the supervision of us the queen mothers. I was in charge of Kongo Primary School and I was doing well. Sometimes, I used my own money to buy the food to cook for the school children until they pay us. But when NPP took over the affairs of this country, they sacked me to go home.” Pognab complained. Madam Elizabeth Atobiga further explained that “the queen mothers are noted to be the leaders at the women wing in the various communities. It is therefore in good taste that subsequent governments should consider empowering us so we can equally play our roles well.” “Government is still owing to me three months salary. I have followed them at the District Assembly but to avail. I was operating a drinking spot but it has collapsed, because, I was using that money to buy foodstuff to cook for the children. And here I am jobless.” Madam Atobiga used the opportunity to call on the Vice Presidential Candidate of the NDC, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, the first lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, and all other female politicians to disregard any allegations that suggest that they support political party A or B but rather make provisions and programmes that focus on developing the queen mothers.
