10 most likely to be President in future

Ghana’s democracy since independence in 1957 has experienced some appreciable growth and evolved in the last 6 decades with more people yearning to take up leadership roles This is evident in the number of young men and women venturing into the political space which hitherto used to be a reserve for the older folk. Student politics in tertiary institutions has birthed a lot of young people with a burning desire and an unrelenting drive to take their destinies and that of the country to a different pedestal. The age-old notion of wisdom and experience being the repository of old age is fast fading away as the 21st-century youth have challenged the norm and are rising to the occasion especially in the political sphere. In recent times, the urge and drive for Ghanaian youth are geared towards establishing a more perfect country to promote the general welfare of the citizens, provide for common defense for those who speak truth to power, and ensure posterity. In no particular order, here are 10 potential people likely to be president of Ghana in the future. 1. John Dumelo A Ghanaian actor, farmer, and politician who has within a short time demonstrated enough passion and resilience to his cause to making Ghana a better place. The 37-year-old actor and NDC’s Ayawaso Wuogon Parliamentary candidate for the 2020 elections gave his opponent a run for her money despite losing in the end. For most political watchers, John Dumelo demonstrated guts, immeasurable confidence and performed surprisingly well, especially transitioning from the field of Creative Arts to mainline politics. This tips the successful actor as a potential figure to run for the highest office of the land considering how far he has come. 2. Zanetor Rawlings The eldest daughter of former President, the late Jerry John Rawlings is gradually following in the footsteps of her father. The 42-year-old is currently a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Klottey Korley constituency in the Greater Accra region. She is regarded by many as a future flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) due to her sharp rise in the political spectrum. In the run-up to the 2020 elections, some school of thought claimed she was being figured by former president John Mahama as a running mate and it won’t be a surprise to see her climb up the political ladder to the level of a flag bearer or a future President. 3. Emmanuel Kojo Jones Mensah Popularly known as Kojo Jones, the 32-year-old business executive whose drive and passion for creating employment opportunities landed him in business, has been at the forefront championing a development agenda throughout the country. The young and passionate entrepreneur is a graduate of Coventry University and the London Metropolitan University, respectively. His love to give back to society has seen him provide potable water, stationery, among other things to many poor and needy communities around the country through his KJM Foundation initiative which is a nonprofit organization. Though his thoughts are unknown, his name stands tall among other contenders for a position like this. His passion to make Ghana a world-class country is very much alive which is why his name cannot go unmentioned in this post. 4. Nana Kwame Bediako Widely known as Cheddar or Freedom Jacob Caesar, the real estate mogul arguably is one of the most sought-after young entrepreneurs in Ghana. With a mission of building a united new Africa and bridging it with the rest of the world, his Freedom Movement advocates for an elevation in the education, civilization, and empowerment of African people around the world who seek to have their value and legacy restored. It, therefore, does not beat imagination seeing his name appear in this list. 5. Sarah Adwoa Safo As far as successful female politicians go, Sarah Adwoa Safo cannot be ignored or underrated. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart is currently the Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya constituency and Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection. She is also an entrepreneur and a graduate of the George Washington University who served as the Procurement minister under the first term of President Akufo Addo’s government. In less than a decade in Parliament, Madam Adwoa Safo is one of the most vocal voices in the House as far as women are concerned. 6. Sammy Awuku His impeccable communication prowess rose him to the rank of Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party. Sammy’s unflinching love and commitment to the NPP accelerated him quickly to join the rank and file of the party as the National Youth Organiser after a landslide victory in the NPP’s 2013 congress. The 37-year-old brilliant and hardworking youth leader as he is, he works tirelessly and effortlessly to rally the youth behind the NPP which secured President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo (then Flag Bearer) a guaranteed win in the 2016 general elections. His love for Accountability in all matters particularly in governance inspired him to partner with colleagues to form the Group that keeps the government of the day on its toes-Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG). Mr. Awuku is currently the Board Chairman of the Youth Employment Agency. 7. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah He bowed out of broadcasting in 2014 to establish an investment firm, West Brownstone Capital. By 2016, he had become a lawyer practicing as a lawyer. In 2015 the 39-year-old member of Parliament and minister for information contested and won the NPP parliamentary primaries for Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency in the Eastern Region of Ghana leading to his victory in the 2016 general elections. He additionally served as a member of the Finance and Constitutional committees of the 7th Parliament of Ghana. He is currently the President’s Representative at the Ministry of Information. His outstanding up to speed performance and display of aptitude as a minister during the COVID-19 pandemic was a testament to his readiness for the task ahead. It is therefore far-fetched that his name keeps surfacing on the lips of people as a possible flag bearer figure

Video: I’m gay, I prefer men like John Dumelo – Pappy Kojo

Jason Gaisie, popularly known as Pappy Kojo, a Ghanaian hip hop and hiplife recording artist, has claimed on the Showbiz 360 programme on TV3, that he is a homosexual. Asked by host of the programe Giovani Caleb on Friday February 19 whether or not he was joking with the comment, he insisted with all seriousness that he is gay. “I am a homosexual man,” he said when told about rumours indicating that he is currently dating a popular female musician. He said in reaction to a question by Giovani about his alleged relationship with Yvonne Nelson. “Is that a joke?” Giovani asked him but he answered “No, it is not. I am gay bro. I am into men” “What is your kind of man? He was asked again. In answer, he said “Men like John Dumelo.” When his attention was drawn to the fact that laws of the land do no permit such act, he retorted ”You can’t change it.” Meanwhile Giovani believed he was joking with these comments which come at a time issues about Lesbian, Gay, Bisexuals, Transgender and Queer Individuals (LGBTQI) have dominated discussions on the airwaves after Minister-designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo has expressed disapproval over the legalisation of homosexuality in the country. The Dome Kwabenya lawmaker during her vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament said “The issue of LGBTQI is an issue that when mentioned creates some controversy but “what I want to say is that our laws are clear on such practices. It makes it criminal. “On the issue of its criminality, it is non-negotiable on the issue of cultural acceptance and norms too. These practices are also frowned upon,” she stated emphatically. Director of LGBTQI+ Rights in Ghana, Alex Kofi Donkor, has asked Ghanaians to look at issues relating to LGBTQI, as human right issues. He told TV3’s Miriam Osei Agyemang on the Mid day news on Friday February 19 that persons who are identified as LGBTQI are verbally and physically attacked in the country. This, he said, must stop because they have fundamental human rights that must be respected and protected by the society. Explaining the reasons behind the setup of an LGBTQI office in Ghana, he said “We created an office space where we talk about issues which affect us as community and ways in which we can resolve the issues. “Let me quickly say in this country a lot of times we do experience a lot of violence and abuse that are perpetuated towards people who are identified as LGBTQI or people who are perceived as LGBTQI persons. When these violence are perpetuated against such people it goes unattended to, people do that with impunity.” Dr. Vladimir Antwi Danso, Dean of Academic Affairs at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, has urged Ghanaians, especially those in authority to be emphatic in the resistance of the LGBTQI phenomenon in the country. He expressed his apprehension on the heels of the LGBTQI establishing an office in the country in an interview with Alfred Ocansey on News 360 on TV3, Thursday February 18. Dr. Danso emphasized the position that “any international organization can support any other entity in any other country but that does not confer diplomatic immunity to persons who are going to use this facility, so if any Ghanaian is there doing anything, only Ghanaian laws apply to such personality. If any foreigner is patronizing the place his immunity inures from the diplomatic immunity according to the international conventions we know in Vienna. They can’t claim immunity just because the facility belongs to gays, lesbians, and that kind of thing”. He shares the view that such avenues are subtle ways of influencing the cultural norms and security of a sovereign society like Ghana with a potential international consequence for the country. “Ghana has not officially accepted LGBTQ and that kind of thing as an official position that we recognize it as a Human Rights thing, and therefore going further to have this thing established has repercussions not necessarily from government to government level repercussion but the general security implications, when I say security I’m talking about the broad sense security, I mean what is this?” he fumed. “That my 8-year old daughter is now going to learn touching femaleness, maleness? Come on she knows that by her features she is female, period! Nobody should teach her how to feel female or feel male and when that didn’t succeed when the syllabus was withdrawn, now they are coming in subtle ways. They’ve got a center where people can go and feel free and socialize, isn’t it? Then it goes down to young minds, innocent minds who begin to take it up, then they get a constituency, once they have a constituency they become a force to reckon with and then Ghana has got there, Mr. President you said we haven’t got there yet, now we are there, we’ve got to resist this with all our might, we’ve got to resist this” he charged. The international relations expert admonished all Ghanaians, especially those in authority to speak against the practice. “People who are in authority should make statements, to come out boldly, look I’m a teacher and I’m making my bold statement so we need to come out boldly and be able to accept what is good for our society and the future of this country’s development rather than hide behind internationalism and say: oh if we don’t do it some countries will not give us loans and whatever. Come on, loans and our future or loans for lesbianism and our present development, which one do we prefer? but let us be more intellectual, analytical about this and let us discuss this dispassionately, something is wrong, we can help them, they need help”. 3news Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. I am proud of the NDC Parliamentarians – Dumelo reacts to drama in Parliament

Ghanaian actor cum politician, Mr. John Setor Dumelo has expressed content about how the NDC MP’s conducted themselves amidst the scuffle that occurred during the inauguration of the 8th Parliament. The unsuccessful Ayawaso West Wuogon NDC MP aspirant appears to be the only one out of several other celebrities to shower praises on the members of Parliament for their conduct. Although not sure what exactly he is proud of, John Dumelo who could not hide his satisfaction took to Twitter to express his sentiments. “I am Proud of the NDC parliamentarians,” he stated. Ahead of the dissolution and inauguration of the seventh and eighth Parliament respectively, lawmakers who belong to the NDC filed into the chamber of parliament ahead of the NPP colleagues and took the majority side of the house. Their decision to occupy the seats perhaps was a sign of their claim that they hold the majority seats in Parliament. This and several other chaoses that characterized the 8th Parliament inauguration on Thursday, January 7, 2021, has since attracted several comments and backlashes from Ghanaians on social media. Even if you swim in the Ayawaso flood you won’t win – John Dumelo shades Lydia Alhassan

The NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has taken a swipe at the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan, over what he describes as her refusal to see to the social welfare and development of the constituents whiles harbouring a tendency to jump into action whenever he (Dumelo) makes any move to that effect. According to Dumelo, the MP’s action speaks of her failure and as much as she tries, she will not be able to rescue herself from being defeated on December 7. “Last week Saturday, I went to wear my boots and entered the water. Somebody too came and wore her boots with her Kaba and slit in the water. If she likes, she should even swim in the water you (she) will not win the election. They stopped me from doing that work, but they cannot stop us from victory. They stopped me from fixing the drain in West Legon but they cannot stop us from victory. The seat is for us and we are taking the seat,” he declared to a gathering of party faithful and sympathizers on Sunday, October 18, 2020, when he launched his campaign at the Bawaleshi School Park. The Ayawaso West Wuogon race will arguably be the most interesting one in the parliamentary elections come December 7. Long before he gained his party’s nomination, John Dumelo of the National Democratic Congress gave a strong signal to the incumbent, Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party, of his intention to be the opponent that will give her a run for her money. As part of his way of reaching out to the people of Ayawaso West, John Dumelo some months back hired excavators to dredge some drains in the West Legon area due to the problems faced by residents in that area whenever there is heavy rainfall. He was, however, reported to have been asked to stop the dredging by the Ayawaso Municipal Assembly pending the granting of a permit by the Assembly. The action by the Assembly was interpreted by many as being politically motivated. Months down the line when it rained heavily last week, some parts of the West Legon area and other areas of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency were heavily flooded. Some residents in the area, as well as the NDC parliamentary candidate, linked the flooding to the refusal of the Assembly to allow the dredging exercise and accused the assembly of doing so on political grounds. Minutes after the rain had stopped last Saturday, John Dumelo was seen in pictures and videos shared on social media walking through the floodwaters visiting some residents to find out how they had been affected by the rain and later in the day, the same was seen of the Member of Parliament, Lydia Alhassan. Speaking during his campaign launch on Sunday, Mr. Dumelo who repeated his confidence in winning the Ayawso West race, indicated that the many social interventions he has undertaken in the constituency are only a prelude to what he intends to do for the people as a member of parliament. “Last year when I won the primaries I got to work and I can confidently tell you that things are happening in Ayawaso West Wuogon. We are sharing laptops, not that when we come, we will share, we are already sharing laptops. We are already creating jobs, they claim that One District One Factory, I don’t see any factories in Ayawaso West Wuogon, I will make that factory and produce that factory in Ayawos West Wuogon. You cannot come and lie to us that you will do the thing when you are not doing the thing. I am here to do it and I will do it. I have started doing it already. Last week I started or inaugurated my mushroom farming, that is what we are going to implement to create a factory in Ayawaso west. So that we can create jobs for everybody,” he said.
