MMDCEs: President Akufo-Addo pointed reasons for the delay as he..

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana has stated that the long awaited list of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) will soon be released this month. “This month of September, all these matters will be resolved… in the course of this month, it will be done,” President Akufo-Addo gave the assurance during an interview with Skyypower FM in Takoradi monitored by Apexnewsgh.com. As part of his tour to the Western Region, he said necessary consultations were ongoing to select the right personalities for the various assemblies. Meanwhile President believes there is the need for broad consultations and that is what he has done. “We have set up committees at the regional and national levels to make recommendations for me.” “I have to really make sure the recommendations fit the political purposes of the government and respond to issues of competence, political suitability and all of these things.” The appointment of MMDCEs is the sole preserve of the President, per Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution. At the moment, the government has been criticised for the lack of progress in appointing new MMDCEs eight months into a new administration. In January, President Akufo-Addo directed all MMDCEs to remain at post until new ones are appointed. The South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, dragged the government to court over the continuous stay of MMDCEs in office eight months after a new administration came into office. According to him, President Akufo-Addo has no constitutional mandate to direct MMDCEs to remain in office in an acting capacity. UER: MDCEs And MDCDs Sign 2021 Performance Contract In Upper East Region

The fifteen assemblies in the Upper East Region comprising three Municipalities and twelves District Assemblies today signed the  2021 Performance Agreements between the Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) and the Municipal and District Co-ordinating Directors(MDCDs) in a short ceremony at the Regional Co-ordinating Council. In a speech read on behalf of the Regional Minister by the Regional Co-ordinating Director (RCD), Alhaji Mahamadu Assibi Azonko indicated that the performance agreements in the public service have come to stay as a means of drawing accountability from duty bearers. He noted that the performance contracts have brought leaders to greater awareness of the place of well-motivated staff in the attainment of set goals of their various entities. Alhaji Azonko said the 2020 performance contract last year made known that the first ten best performed Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) which obtain the past mark would be awarded and those who fail would also be sanctioned. “Don’t be surprised that the subsequence assessment will be tied to the release of funds to the MMDAs.  It is, therefore, important to take these performance contracts seriously” he emphasized. The RCD however, acknowledged that the implementation of the performance contracts has not been without constraints, and as a result resources to facilitate works have not always matched with planned activities hence there is the need for all which to be reviewed periodically to incorporate genuine proposals. He, therefore, encouraged the MMDAs to rise above the challenges and find innovative ways to serve the needs of their citizens under their respective jurisdictions. UER: MMDCEs that cannot deliver will have a lot of problem with me–UE-Regional Minister

The Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has pointed that, MMDCs who could not perform well at their various constituencies in the region after the President’s appointment, will have a lot of problems with him because his expectation for development in the region is high. Mr. Yakubu made the pronouncement during a One-on-One exclusive interview with Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen at his residence. “My expectation is that we will get MMDCEs who will not come and fight party people or not come and fight for people to not vote for the party. But, really on a serious note, I think that my main focus in this region is to develop the region. So, we are looking at people who have a huge capacity, is not just about the politics of it, but is about the capacity to be able to develop the constituency. You know the DCEs are the implementers, they are actually at the base and whatever thing I want to do, they are the people that need to do it. So, we are looking at people with the high-quality capacity to be able to deliver. Because, if the people that cannot deliver, they will have a lot of problem with me. I am not saying that those who were there were not delivering but, my expectation is very high and anybody who is coming will have to fit into the stature for us to develop”. According to the Regional Minister, even though it isn’t his sole responsibility to appoint the MMDCEs, he is well convinced that the President will be very mindful that in his second term they need to deliver to the people of the Upper East Region. “So, am not the one who is going to be giving the post, it is the President who is going to do that and am sure the President is very mindful that in his second term we need to deliver to the people of Upper East and the country as a whole. He will be mindful of that. Therefore, the people he is going to be bringing will also have that capacity”. BONGO: Out of 16 candidates contesting the DCEship position in Bongo, one out of these 3 stands a better chance

Even though the NPP National secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party John Boadu days back has cautioned those interested in the position of MMDCEs across the country to be wary of who will come vetting them without any formal announcement from government ahead of MMDCEs position, Bongo District is one of the districts that has gone through their vetting already since January 2021 apexnewsgh.com can confirm. Residents of Bongo in their various locations are now contemplating and as well debating who the best three contestants should be as far as the position DCEship is concerned.  According to the information collated by Apexnewsgh.com through interviews and public opinion engagement in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region regarding the position of the District Chief Executive, it appears the three key names that are in the minds of the Bongo people to be appointed as the President’s representative in the District are as follows: Ayinbisa Peter Ayamga, Akurigo Eric and Diana Aburiya .A. The three names above according to the people of Bongo stand the chance of getting the position. However, the former District Chief Executive Peter Ayinbisa chances of maintaining the seat look bright because the majority of those who spoke to Apexnewsgh.com said they won’t be surprised if President decides to maintain Mr. Ayinbisa as their next DCE because he has shown good leadership and as well marketed the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) within the past 4 years as the Bongo District Chief Executive (DCE) now known as ‘Bongo Dubai’ since his administration. However, Mr. Akurugu Eric and Diana Aburiya have also been described by those we engaged as hardworking party members who have contributed their quota to the party in one way or the other. However, the President has the final say, even though these are views of residents Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications.
