The recent announcement by New Patriotic Party’s Stephen Asamoah Boateng seems to have sent some butterflies into the stomach of others hoping to contest for the same position. Mr. Asamoah Boateng who is currently the Director General for State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA) announced that he will be picking forms to contest for the position of National Chairman should nominations be opened. The announcement as widely publicized by various news portals was met with mixed feelings. While majority of party people who know the capabilities of the SIGA boss have readily accepted him and vowed not to only campaign for him but also vote and ensure he wins, others who had already declared their intentions have lost appetite for food. Whichever way, political pundits say they are enthused with the excitement that his declaration of intent has brought into the party. Mr. Asamoah Boateng in his announcement noted that the “pertinent problem persisting in the party is a disconnect between the party and the government” which is the reason for him to contest to bring change to the party. He noted that the root cause of this divide is the “lack of communication between the party’s grassroots and authorities at the helm of affairs”. Many party folks believe the SIGA boss is coming into the contest with a great wealth of experience as he has served in various positions as Information Minister, Local Government Minister and Member of Parliament. His rich interpersonal skills exhibited over the years, even in times when he was not in power or campaigning for any position has earned sweatless admiration within the party’s rank and file, some NPP folks told this reporter. A polling station executive at Ejisu who pleaded anonymity for fear of victimization told ModernGhana News that “there is no need to look any further, we thank God Asabee is coming. He has indeed simplified the task for us delegates.” The NPP will be going for its National Delegates Conference in June 2022 to elect National Executives to steer affairs. The party’s main mission this time is to break the 8year electoral circle to stay in power. This places on them a responsibility to elect leaders who have the ability to smoothen the relationship between the party’s grass root members and its Executives as well as people in Government. Delegates are therefore, carefully searching for persons with such clouts in the party to be able to enhance this singular very important achievement.
