Mr. Samuel Dodoo, the Executive Director of Media Response, a non-governmental organisation, has extended calls for Ghanaians as member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to take advantage of the protocols made available.
He said, “With the current free movement protocol and also other trade agreement that have been signed and there is a lot of opportunities for the ordinary citizens of ECOWAS to be able to take advantage of but unfortunately due to lack knowledge and awareness, there are a lot of institutions and individuals who are currently having challenges trying to take advantage of the situation and also to enhance their livelihood”.
During an interview with the media in Bolgatanga on Friday December 15, 2023, Mr. Dodoo emphasized the importance of the Regional Sensitization Workshop on ECOWAS Protocols for state and non-state actors in the Upper East Region.
The workshop, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in collaboration with Media Response and the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council, aimed at educating stakeholders about the new Vision 2050, “ECOWAS of the People: Peace and Prosperity for All.”
Participants were taken through some protocols and topics such as an overview of ECOWAS, the mandate and functions of the Regional Integration Bureau, the Protocol on Free Movement and Transhuman, ECOWAS Brown Card Scheme and the Role of Citizens, Civil Society Organizations, Media, Chiefs, the public and private sectors.
Mr. Dodoo, tasked participant to do some kind of in-depth study and also be able to work with the relevant institutions because the institutions are available. According to Mr. Dodoo, ECOWAS is not only based in Abuja, “ECOWAS is working through our own institutions, ECOWAS is working through our Ministries department and agencies”.
“So, we urge all participant to relate with their authorities and also with the institution within Ecowas especially the ECOWAS Commission that take care of trade and industry and as well as those that will promote the interest of the youth and also the interest of the deprived communities.
