The MinMinas Irene Vélez would present her resignation this week

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Irene Vélez, would present her letter of resignation this week at the direct request of President Gustavo Petroaccording to sources from Casa de Nariño confirmed to Caracol Radio.

President Gustavo Petro would have taken this decision after the opening of a preliminary investigation for alleged influence peddling to Minister Vélez by the Prosecutor’s Office and taking into account that the Attorney General’s Office is also carrying out a process for the alleged irregular departure of his son, a minor, from the country last January.

According to the same sources, the minister was in Brussels over the weekend, where she spoke withPresident Petro, and then traveled to Spain to fulfill other commitments.

The head of state instructed Minister Velez not to return to Brussels, not to join the presidential delegation again and to return immediately to the country to attend to the judicial matters opened against her.
