Togbe Afede XIV Calls for Honesty and Integrity to Defeat Corruption

Amidst the vibrant celebrations of the Asogli Yam Festival in Ho, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, delivered a stirring address that resonated far beyond the festival grounds. On Sunday, October 5, Togbe Afede spoke passionately about a challenge that continues to impede Ghana’s progress: corruption.

In his keynote speech, Togbe Afede did not mince words. He described corruption as a major obstacle to the country’s development, stressing that it stems from a collective failure to uphold truth and honesty in public and private life.

“Corruption has been a stumbling block to our development and it is the result of our inability to hold on to the path of truth, the path of strictest honesty,” he declared, his voice carrying across the assembled chiefs, dignitaries, and citizens.

Togbe Afede used the occasion to urge both political and traditional leaders to embrace honesty and integrity as non-negotiable values. He reminded them—and all Ghanaians—that truthfulness must serve as a foundation for building a just, peaceful, and prosperous society.

“That is why the theme for today’s durbar focuses on honesty, focuses on unity, peace and prosperity. Together in unity and prosperity we build a just, peaceful, prosperous nation,” he said, echoing the festival’s message of collective responsibility.

As the festivities continued, Togbe Afede’s words left a powerful reminder: that the fight against corruption is not just a matter for leaders, but a national call to action for all who seek a brighter future for Ghana.
