In the ongoing Special Delegates Conference of the governing New Patriotic Party in the Upper East Region, Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received 31 out of the 36 votes cast, giving him approximately 86 percent of the votes. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, received 3 votes, while former Trades Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen received only one vote. The remaining 7 contestants did not receive any votes.

However, the Upper East Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Anthony Anamoo who expressed satisfaction with the process said delegates voted peacefully without any form of attack or prevention.
According to Chairman Anamoo, the election is an internal one meaning that, there is not loser or winner after the result declaration because the NNP won.
However, party members were shocked with the number of vote recorded in the Region for the former trade Minister Alan.
