Reports have surfaced claiming that veteran Nigerian actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, has tragically passed away.
Although unconfirmed, sources suggest that he passed away at Evercare hospital in Lagos, leaving details surrounding the cause of death and the authenticity of these reports unclear.
In the past, similar rumors of Mr. Ibu’s demise have circulated, indicating confusion about the truth of the situation. However, according to Nairaland website, the actor is said to have died on Saturday, March 2.
Mr. Ibu had been dealing with health issues since October 2023, undergoing multiple surgeries that resulted in the amputation of his leg. Despite receiving treatment and being discharged from the hospital in early January this year, his health remained a concern.
Originally from Nkanu West Lagos of Enugu State, Mr. Ibu is survived by his wife and three children. In an interview with the Nigerian Vanguard Newspaper in May 2022, the actor detailed a near-death experience he faced due to illness, wherein he claimed to have seen visions of the afterlife but ultimately was brought back to life by God.
Reflecting on his ordeal, Mr. Ibu expressed gratitude for the second chance at life and noted the lessons he learned from his sickness. Despite facing adversity, he emphasized his surprise and appreciation for still being alive, recounting the moment when he believed his enemies were expecting him to succumb to his illness.
As Mr. Ibu’s family and representatives have yet to comment on the recent reports of his passing, the entertainment industry and fans are left to mourn the loss of a beloved figure and remember the legacy he leaves behind.
