Yaw Osafo-Maafo, the Senior Minister has decided to quit government, it was reported that the source close to him told Asaaseradio.
According to the source, Mr. Osafo- Maafo had informed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of his decision right after the December general election after the New Patriotic Party was declared the winner of the 2020 election by the EC chairperson.
Osafo Maafo has contributed his quota since he was appointed by President Akufo in his first administration, he is known in Ghana as one of the veteran politicians with smart thinking according to some political experts.
His contribution to the Akufo Addo led government was bedeviled with few controversies ranging from his justification of avoiding the prosecution of the Chinese ‘galamsyer’ Aisha Huang and his battle with the Auditor General.
However, his position as a Senior Minister is still seen as something of a novelty. It was first introduced into the Ghanaian body politic by President John Agyekum Kufuor in 2001 when he appointed J H Mensah to the role.
Meanwhile, the nationwide co-ordination of the reopening of schools and other educational institutions after their long closure in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic was the main project that Senior Minister Osafo-Maafo supervised in 2020, his last year in office.
