Mahama Exposes Agenda 111 Hospital Project’s Stunning Inefficiency

President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that a staggering $400 million was spent on the Agenda 111 hospital project under the previous administration, yet not a single facility is fully operational. Apexnewsgh reports This bombshell was dropped during Mahama’s maiden State of the Nation Address in his second term before Parliament. Launched as an ambitious healthcare initiative, Agenda 111 aimed to construct 111 hospitals nationwide, bridging Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure gap. However, despite significant financial commitments, the project has failed to deliver. “It is worth disclosing that USD400m has already been disbursed under agenda 111 project,” Mahama said, emphasizing that not a single hospital under this initiative is serving the people of Ghana. Mahama further suggested that the amount already spent could have facilitated the completion and operationalization of at least 22 of the proposed hospitals if resources had been utilized efficiently. This stark admission highlights the project’s stunning inefficiency and raises questions about the management of public funds. Source: Apexnewsgh.com

Agenda 111: Nabdam MP Predicts 20-Year Completion Due to Insufficient Funding

Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, the Member of Parliament for the Nabdam constituency, has expressed concerns that the “Agenda 111” project may take up to 20 years to complete due to the significant costs involved. Apexnewsgh reports The Nabdam MP believes that with the current budgetary allocation, the project’s timeline is unrealistic. According to him, Instead of relying solely on Agenda 111, Dr. Nawaane suggests that the government explore alternative solutions to provide quality medical care. He proposes achieving this through “extensions” by adding new buildings to existing structures and posting qualified medical professionals to these facilities. This approach, he believes, can help provide quality medical care and even reach Level 3 of medical care. Addressing party men and women at Logre community, Dr. revealed that he has plans to make sure Nangode and Logre clinic are elevated to hospital status. According to Dr. Nawaane, the above clinic is not far from reaching hospital status, with the main requirement being the provision of theatre services. This would involve the presence of a doctor, nurses and an anesthetist, as accommodation facilities are already available. The MP, while excited about the prospect, is cautiously keeping details under wraps until the plans are fully realized. “I want to make sure I work on it, and when it’s done, we can all celebrate,” the leader emphasized, hinting at a brighter future for healthcare in Nangode and Logre. Dr. Nawaane’s intervention settles nurses’ Accommodation problem in Gundorg/Wore-Daah

Nabdam Member of Parliament has officially handed over a newly built two-bedroom accommodation for nurses to the Gundorg/Wore-Daah in the Zanlerigu community in the Nabdam District. Apexnewsgh reports The facility, which was constructed using the MP’s NHIA fund and personal money, aims to address the community’s cry for nurses to be accommodated two years ago. The Nabdam Legislator explained that the lack of accommodation for nurses resulted in them leaving the clinic at 5 pm, leaving no one to attend to deliveries at night. “The new facility will enable nurses to stay on-site, ensuring 24-hour care for the community”. He stressed Dr. Nawaane during the handing over further appealed to the community to maintain the facility and encouraged them to come together to raise funds for any necessary repairs. The facility has been painted in the recommended green color of the Ghana Health Service. He thanked the community for their support and invited them to inspect the facility. The keys were later handed over to the staff. Mercy Afobiga a health worker in charge of the facility explained how the new accommodation will enhance their activities, noting that their current space is cramped, with multiple services being provided in a single room. The new accommodation will enable staff to move out, allowing for confidential services to be provided to clients one at a time. When asked how they managed without the accommodation, Madam Afobiga described the challenges they faced, including navigating poor road networks, especially during rainfall. They had to park their vehicles and walk to the community to provide services. The healthcare worker emphasized that the new accommodation’s central location serves multiple communities, including those from nearby communities. They expressed gratitude to the MP, wishing him God’s blessings and upliftment, and hoping that he will continue to support their needs in the future. Source: Apexnewsgh.com

Violent Clash in Oti Region Leaves Woman Hospitalized, Homes Burnt

A renewed communal clash in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region has left a 43-year-old woman, Mrs. Naomi Foligah, hospitalized with a gunshot wound, and several homes set ablaze. Apexnewsgh reports The violent incident occurred on Wednesday night in Tuobodon, a sub-community within the municipality, sparking concerns over the escalating tensions in the area. According to eyewitnesses, the clashes began on Wednesday night, with two houses being torched. Mrs. Foligah was reportedly protecting her children when she was shot below the breast. She was quickly rushed to St. Joseph Catholic Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment. The Nkwanta South Municipality has witnessed numerous violent clashes in recent years, primarily over land and tribal disputes, resulting in several deaths. The area has been under curfew since last year due to the ongoing tensions. Despite efforts by authorities to restore peace, the violence has continued, disrupting education, forcing the closure of government offices, and leading many residents to flee the area for safety. Security personnel, including the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the Ghana National Fire Service, were deployed to the area to contain the situation. However, they struggled to bring the flames under control, as several structures were already destroyed. The Nkwanta Divisional Police Command has launched an investigation into the latest clash, but the exact cause of the violence remains unknown. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and refrain from any actions that could worsen the situation. Source: Apexnewsgh.com

National Identification Authority Acknowledges Delayed Salary Payments to Contract Staff

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has owned up to delayed salary payments affecting approximately 500 contract staff. Apexnewsgh reports In a memo dated January 6, 2025, the NIA apologized for the inconvenience caused and assured the affected staff that they are working to resolve the issue promptly. The contract staff in question were engaged in the registration of Ghanaians aged six to fourteen years for the months of October and November 2024. The NIA expressed appreciation for the staff’s dedication and patience during this challenging period, urging them to remain calm as they work to pay the outstanding salaries within the shortest possible time. This is not the first time the NIA has faced issues with salary payments. In October 2024, the staff declared a strike over delayed implementation of a new service scheme, which they claimed undermined their rights and expectations as employees. The NIA has recommended that any further concerns be channeled through immediate supervisors, as they work to resolve the current delay in salary payments. Source: Apexnewsgh.com

Euroget De-Invest S.A. Protests Opening of 250-Bed Ashanti Regional Hospital

A controversy has erupted over the recent opening of the 250-bed Ashanti Regional Hospital at Sewua in the Bosomtwe District. Apexnewsgh reports Euroget De-Invest S.A., the contractor behind the project, has voiced strong objections to the facility’s inauguration by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Saturday, January 4, 2025. According to Euroget, the opening was conducted in violation of contractual and legal obligations. The company claims that the hospital remains incomplete, unpaid for in full, and has not been officially handed over to the government. “Euroget did not give anyone permission to enter the site. Possession is still ours until we hand it in the correct and legal manner,” emphasized Dr. Said Deraz, Group Chairman of Euroget. The company also expressed concerns that the event occurred without its involvement or consent, describing it as a breach of contract and security protocols. Notably, no representatives from Euroget were present at the opening ceremony. Euroget has questioned the timing of the opening, suggesting it may have been motivated by political considerations, given its proximity to the government transition. The company has called for an investigation into the incident, arguing that such actions undermine the integrity of the project and set a concerning precedent for future government dealings. Despite the dispute, Euroget has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the hospital to the highest standards. The company has urged authorities to prioritize an amicable resolution that adheres to legal and contractual agreements. The 250-bed Ashanti Regional Hospital is part of a broader initiative to improve healthcare infrastructure in the region, with Euroget De-Invest S.A. contracted to deliver the project. Below is the full statement: PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DATE:5TH JANUARY 2025 CONCERNS OVER THE COMMISSIONING OF ASHANTI REGIONAL 250-BED HOSPITAL IN SEWUA From the Office of Dr. Said Deraz, Group Chairman, Euroget De-Invest S.A. The recent commissioning of the 250-Bed Ashanti Regional Hospital in Sewua, Bosomtwe District, by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Saturday, 4th January 2025, raises serious concerns regarding legal and contractual obligations. While we acknowledge the importance of healthcare infrastructure in the Ashanti Region, we must firmly state that the commissioning of the 250-bed facility Regional hospital was conducted in direct violation of the terms of our contract. It is important to stress that Euroget De-Invest S.A. has not yet received full payment for the construction of the hospital. Furthermore, the project remains incomplete and has not yet been officially handed over to the government. As the contractor, we retain possession of the site until the project is handed over correctly and legally. We categorically did not grant permission to any party to enter the site for commissioning purposes. Dr. Said Deraz, Group CEO and Chairman of Euroget De-Invest S.A., expressed his concerns,as below: “Euroget did not give anyone permission to enter the site. Possession is still ours until we hand over in the correct and legal manner.” He further emphasised: “This is a breach of the contract. We haven’t handed over, and every step should be taken to claim damages against all previous commissioning because, by this action, the President is implying that he could have commissioned those hospitals without incurring any costs on our part.” The fact that the government proceeded with the commissioning without consulting Euroget raises questions about the adherence to legal protocols and sanctity of contracts . The company, which secured the funding for the hospital’s construction, was not consulted regarding this purported commissioning. Additionally, there was no representative from Euroget present at the event, which accentuates our exclusion from a critical milestone in the project. We believe that the government’s actions constitute a serious breach of security concerning the hospital. Entering the premises without our permission to undertake the commissioning, while the hospital remains incomplete and without the contractor being fully compensated, reflects a disregard for the law and contractual agreements. This situation represents a level of lawlessness that cannot be overlooked. Please find attached to this release photos of the current state of the hospital which reinforces this statement As we approach the transition of power in Ghana,we are left questioning the motives behind such an action. Why would an outgoing President engage in such illegality just three days before handing over office? We must stress that the timing of this commissioning raises concerns about the legitimacy of the actions taken and whether they serve any political agenda rather than the interests of the citizens who rely on these healthcare facilities. It is fundamental for all stakeholders, including the public, to understand the implications of these actions. The commissioning of the Ashanti Regional 250 bed Hospital should be a moment of pride and achievement for all involved; however, it has instead become a source of contention and uncertainty. We urge the government to respect the rule of law and adhere to the contractual obligations it has entered into. We call upon the relevant authorities to investigate this matter thoroughly. The actions taken by the government not only undermine the integrity of the project but also set a worrying precedent for future government contracts and projects. The people of the Ashanti Region deserve better than to have their healthcare infrastructure embroiled in legal disputes and contractual violations. In conclusion, Euroget De-Invest S.A. remains committed to completing the Ashanti Regional 250-Bed Hospital to the highest standards and fulfilling our contractual obligations. We hope that this situation can be resolved amicably and that the government will recognise the importance of following due process in all its dealings. We are prepared to take all necessary steps to protect our rights and seek damages for any breaches of contract that have occurred. We appreciate the ongoing support from the community and stakeholders, and we will keep the public informed about any developments regarding this matter. Signed, Dr. Said Deraz Source: Apexnewsgh.com
