Students at the Roman Catholic Primary School in Akyem Asene, Eastern Region, were left stranded when the contractor handling the school’s building project, Mr. Agyekum Kontor, locked the premises.
Mr. Kontor, CEO of Kontor Sadea and Sons Company Ltd, took this action to demand payment from the government for work completed over seven years ago.
Despite finishing the project in 2016, Mr. Kontor claims he has not received payment from the government through the district assembly. Frustrated by the delays and unfulfilled promises, he made the decision to close the school building until his outstanding payment is settled.
In his statement to the media, Mr. Kontor expressed his frustration with the district assembly and government for continuously delaying payment despite fulfilling all obligations. He vowed not to reopen the school until he receives the payment owed to him.
The situation left students and staff uncertain about when the school will reopen, emphasizing the need for a swift resolution to the payment dispute. The school authorities echoed this sentiment, highlighting the urgency of resolving the issue to ensure the students can return to their studies without further interruptions.
