A recent survey conducted on Twitter by Oliver Barker Vormawor has shown that an overwhelming 81% of Ghanaians prefer having a Dutch passport to a PhD from Ghana. Apexnewsgh reports
The poll, which garnered 13,721 votes, comes on the heels of a controversial statement made by Kofi Gabs, a Ghanaian social media personality living in the Netherlands.
Gabs had stated in a viral video that his Dutch passport holds more practical value than a PhD from Ghana, citing his seamless experience obtaining a US visa through the ESTA app.
He argued that the benefits of Dutch citizenship outweigh the prestige of a Ghanaian PhD, sparking a mixed reaction from the Ghanaian community.
While some defended the value of advanced degrees from Ghana, many others criticized Gabs’ comments.
The survey results, however, suggest that a significant majority of Ghanaians share Gabs’ sentiment, prioritizing the practical advantages of a Dutch passport over the academic achievement of a PhD from Ghana.
