Retired Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam, Special Adviser on Security to Governor Mai Mala Buni, disclosed this in a briefing with newsmen in Damaturu.
Abdulsalam addressed concerns raised by residents about the involvement of repentant insurgents in security operations in Geidam town. He assured that the government’s decision to engage with repentant Boko Haram members is aimed at ending insurgency and restoring peace.
These “hybrid forces” provide crucial assistance to security agencies, including:
– Intelligence gathering on insurgents and their collaborators, Identifying suppliers and collaborators of Boko Haram and ISWAP
In Geidam, repentant Boko Haram operatives have helped contain terrorist infiltration and identify individuals with links to the insurgency.
Twelve arrests have been made, and suspects are being interrogated and transferred to Damaturu.
Abdulsalam urged Geidam residents to cooperate with security agents to dislodge terrorists and disrupt their supply chains, emphasizing that Boko Haram relies on fuel, food, and medicine to sustain their operations.
