In a powerful speech during President Mahama’s ‘Thank You’ tour in the Volta Region, Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli Traditional Area, shared a heartbreaking experience from his visit to the Jubilee House in 2020. Apexnewsgh reports
Accompanied by other chiefs from the Volta Region, they appealed to then-President Akufo-Addo to withdraw soldiers deployed to the region ahead of the December 7 polls.
However, instead of being received with respect, the chiefs were “embarrassed and denigrated” in the presence of the Volta Regional Minister and John Peter Amewu. Togbe Afede XIV recounted being falsely accused of interfering with voter registration and importing voters from Togo to vote for the NDC.
The experience left the chiefs feeling extremely sad and disrespected. Togbe Afede XIV expressed his displeasure, stating that the comments made were not palatable.
In contrast, he commended President Mahama for appointing James Gunu as the new Volta Regional Minister, expressing hope that he would be more effective than his predecessor, Dr. Archibald Letsa.
