President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made the decision to dismiss 24 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) from their positions as representatives of the President at the district level.

This action, which was announced in a statement signed by President Akufo-Addo on February 2nd, 2024, is in line with Article 243 (3) (b) of the constitution and Section 20 (3) (b) of the Local Government Act, 2014 (Act 936).

Among those affected by this decision is Tahiru Issahaku Ahmed, who previously held the position of District Chief Executive for Bawku West. Mr. Ahmed was known for his good interpersonal skills and was well-liked by party executives and grassroots supporters.

He had extensive experience in public sector administration, having previously served as Upper East Regional Chairman, Regional Vice Chairman, and Constituency Secretary of the party. Additionally, he was a member of the Regional Council of Elders and Patrons of the party in the region.

The dismissal of Mr. Ahmed and the other MMDCEs brings an end to their tenure as representatives of the President in their respective districts. It is now up to President Akufo-Addo to fill these vacant positions with new appointees.
