The Chief of Sumbrungu, Naba Aberese Clement Atogumboyinga, has made an important request for the creation of a separate constituency known as the “Bolga West Constituency” from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) if elected into office. Apexnewsgh reports

During a visit by the NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, to seek permission to carry out a party campaign, the chief emphasized the need for a breakaway from the Bolgatanga constituency, stating that Bolgatanga Central Constituency is too large for just one Member of Parliament.

The chief expressed appreciation for past development projects undertaken by the NDC government, such as the extension of electricity, community water projects, the Sumbrungu health center, chips compounds, and some basic schools. However, he highlighted existing development challenges, including the need to create a separate constituency for the Bolga West area, which is made up of Sherigu, Nyariga, Kulbia, Kolgo, Amogrebiisi, Azorebiisi, and Agusi, among others.

Pointing out that the Bolga Constituency’s current size has a voter population of over 70,000, the chief emphasized that it is too vast for one Member of Parliament to manage.

He further reminded the NDC National Chairman about the Upper East airport project, which was initially initiated by their government in the 1980s and revisited during former President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

The chief also highlighted the lack of a second-cycle institution in the catchment area to feed the Bolgatanga Technical University, located in Sumbrungu. He requested the establishment of a community senior high school (SHS) to reduce the number of children who are either denied education or have to travel long distances to access secondary education, as well as the implementation of a STEM school for which a site has already been earmarked.

Sumbrungu faces several development challenges, but the chief emphasized three pressing issues that he hopes the government will address when it forms the next administration.
