Committee Formed to Investigate Akosombo Dam Flooding

This initiative is part of the government’s commitment to managing environmental events and ensuring the safety and livelihoods of affected communities.

The committee, chaired by Ing. Kirk Koffi, has been tasked with examining the events leading to the spillage, assessing the response to the flooding, identifying affected areas, and evaluating strategies adopted to address the impact. They will also recommend measures for immediate relief and long-term solutions.

During the inauguration, Minister Jinapor emphasized the importance of a coordinated response to mitigate the effects of the flooding.

He questioned how the government should approach compensation for affected communities and stressed the need for sustainable planning and improved flood management strategies to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The committee has been urged to work closely with key stakeholders, including local government officials, community leaders, and environmental experts, to gather relevant information.

Minister Jinapor assured the committee of his full support, and the Chairman, Ing. Kirk Koffi, expressed the committee’s commitment to delivering on its mandate.

Other members of the committee include Mr. Kwame Jantuah, Ing. Kofi Ellis, Ing. Kwaku Akosa, and Ms. Georgette Emefa Fugah (Secretary). They have one month to complete their work and submit their findings and recommendations.
