The Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, presided over the inauguration of the freshly constituted board of directors for the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR). Apexnewsgh reports
The 11-member board, led by Chairperson Leon Kendon Appenteng and Managing Director Kofi Mocumbi Tagoe, has been tasked with the crucial mission of attracting new strategic partners to enhance the company’s viability and adaptability to the current challenges and opportunities.
In his address, the minister highlighted the enduring and tumultuous history of the Tema Oil Refinery and emphasized the pressing need for sustainable change. Despite previous interventions, TOR continues to face challenges, prompting the minister to stress the urgency of a strategic repositioning for the company.
Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh urged the board to view potential new entrants into the market not just as competitors but as collaborators in driving the industry forward. Emphasizing the dynamic nature of demand in the sector, the minister called on TOR to evolve into a competitive player that maximizes service provision in alignment with current market needs.
Furthermore, the minister urged TOR to proactively transition into a modern, profit-oriented organization suitable for the demands of the 21st century. The board, which includes members like Dr Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko, Edith Sapare Grant, and Nana Akua Bakoma Prempeh, holds the responsibility of steering TOR towards financial sustainability and operational excellence.
Among the other distinguished members of the board are Loraine Crabbe Ababio, Alfred Thompson, Joseph Mensah Browne, Kwame Baffoe, and Herbert Ato Morrisson. With a renewed focus on strategic partnerships and operational efficiency, the new board of directors at TOR aims to usher in a new era of growth and prosperity for the company while actively supporting the government’s vision.
“The Tema Oil Refinery has a longstanding and chequered history that I am sure we are all familiar with. Indeed, two years ago this month, I had the duty of inaugurating a substantive board after an Interim Management Committee had replaced an earlier substantive board. Despite several interventions in the past, TOR seems to remain in distress. This cannot, and must not continue” the minister said.
