A formal complaint has been lodged against Ghana’s former Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, at the General Legal Council (GLC). Apexnewsgh reports
The complaint, filed by legal activist Daniel Kwame Ofosu-Appiah, alleges professional misconduct in connection with the ongoing criminal trial of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and another.
The complaint centers around a controversial audio recording admitted into evidence by the High Court and upheld by the Court of Appeal. The recording captures a private conversation between Mr. Dame and the third accused, Richard Jakpa, which the petitioner argues reveals efforts by the former Attorney-General to improperly influence Mr. Jakpa’s testimony.
The complaint alleges several breaches of the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct and Etiquette) Rules, including failure to act with honesty and integrity, engaging in deceit or misrepresentation, and attempting to improperly influence a witness. Mr. Ofosu-Appiah has called on the Disciplinary Committee of the GLC to impose appropriate sanctions, which could include reprimand, suspension, or removal from the roll of lawyers.
The complaint highlights the broader implications of the case, raising concerns about professional ethics, prosecutorial propriety, and the independence of the judicial process.
The allegations against Mr. Dame have sparked a debate about the integrity of the legal system and the need for accountability among legal professionals. The Acting Chief Justice has also been copied on the complaint.
