Former Minister Ignatius Baffour-Awuah Granted Bail Over Kotoko Fan’s Death

In a dramatic turn of events, former Employment and Labour Relations Minister Ignatius Baffour-Awuah has been granted bail by the Sunyani District Court B. Apexnewsgh reports

Baffour-Awuah, who is also the owner and financier of Nsoatreman FC, was arrested in connection with the death of a Kotoko fan, Francis Yaw ‘Pooley’ Frimpong, during a recent Ghana Premier League match.

The court, presided over by Eric Daning, granted Baffour-Awuah and Joseph Kyeremeh a GHS500,000 bail with three sureties each. However, Agyemang Duah Owusu, a police officer and one of the accused persons, was remanded into police custody. Baffour-Awuah and Kyeremeh were charged with “abetment to commit a crime, to wit murder,” while Duah was charged with murder.

As part of their bail conditions, Baffour-Awuah and Kyeremeh are required to report to the police every day until their next court appearance on February 17, 2025. They must also surrender their passports to the court registry and seek permission from the court before traveling outside the Sunyani Municipality.

The violent disturbances that led to Frimpong’s death occurred during a match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC at Nsoatre, Bono Region, on February 2, 2025. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for action against hooliganism in Ghanaian football.
