Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Vows to Hold Government Accountable for Delayed Postings

The President of the Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Association, Haruna Ibrahim, has reiterated the organization’s determination to ensure the government fulfills its promise to expedite the posting of its members within a month. Members of the Association had hoped for a quicker resolution, especially considering the Ministry of Health’s repeated assurances that clearance for nurses’ postings from 2020 onwards is readily available.

To draw attention to their plight, the Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Association, along with the Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association, staged a protest at the Ministry of Health on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, demanding immediate action to address their unemployment situation.

During an interview on the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Kaakyire Kwesi Appea-Apreku on Accra 100.5 on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Haruna Ibrahim reaffirmed the Associations’ resolve to patiently await the one-month timeframe promised by the government. However, he cautioned that if the government fails to fulfill its commitment, they will explore other options.

Despite the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer’s assurance about the posting timeframe, Mr. Ibrahim emphasized the Association’s insistence on holding the government accountable for its pledge, especially given the Ministry’s acknowledgment of having the required clearance for postings. He stressed that the only obstacle to the process is the budget, which should have been addressed in the previous year’s fiscal planning.

The Association remains optimistic that the government will honor its commitment and prioritize timely postings to address the growing concerns of unemployment among graduate nurses and midwives.
