Today show host Karl Stefanovic has seen the funny side to the brutal response to his cringeworthy Kochie cocaine joke which flopped at the Logie Awards on Sunday.
The TV presenter, 48, was reflecting on the awkward moment on Monday’s Today show and jokingly pretended to cry after watching the clip with his co-hosts.
Speaking later to Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, Karl admitted there were few fans of his gag – and even wife Jasmine mocked him for it.
‘That one fell flat,’ the Today host revealed his wife of five years told him after he returned to his seat.
‘Clearly the audience was too old. There really wasn’t much laughter,’ Stefanovic admitted.
‘It was a totally awkward moment. I got back to the seat, and you know how our partners usually support our great gags? Well, Jasmine just goes, “ugh”,’ he added.
‘I had to explain the joke to her and as the saying goes, if you have to explain it then it is no good,’ he added.
Karl added he believed Kochie did not properly hear the joke and that was the reason for his blank expression, rather than disliking the joke.
Kyle then got Kochie on the line to hear his side of things.

‘I was just caught up in the confusion. I’m not up with cocaine terminology, I was just talking about my favourite show,’ Kochie told the hosts.
After hearing both sides of the story, Kyle concluded that Karl and Kochie were ‘not at war’ and Kochie’s blank expression was due to him not being ‘cocaine joke friendly’.
During Sunday’s Logies ceremony, Karl fell flat with a bizarre jab at his long-running breakfast TV rival David Koch.

The ad-libbed joke about cocaine left the audience – and Kochie himself – more bewildered than entertained.
It started when Kochie confessed his fondness for the third season of Stan series Bump while presenting on stage.
Seizing the moment, Stefanovic took a comedic leap, playing on the double entendre of ‘bump,’ a term colloquially associated with cocaine.
‘I want to just check something… I am pretty sure before I heard Kochie say he loves Bump’s… season three. Did anyone mishear that? Because I am pretty sure I did.’
Sarah and Brooke both then hugged Karl and jokingly reassured him things were not as bad as they seemed
‘Anyway, those are the headlines tomorrow morning…’ Stefanovic remarked, hoping for a laugh.
However, his risky attempt at humour seemed to miss the mark, with audience members not reacting the way he’d hoped.
A camera cut to a bewildered Kochie only added to the cringeworthy moment.
Host Sam Pang couldn’t resist a jibe at Stefanovic’s joke-bombing later in the show, saying: ‘I don’t want to say Karl’s joke about Kochie sank, but OceanGate are offering expeditions to visit it.’
