Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has unleashed criticism on the Speaker of Parliament, accusing him of acting unilaterally and without proper communication in suspending several Members of Parliament (MPs). Apexnewsgh reports
Afenyo-Markin condemned the Speaker’s actions as an overreach of authority, which has compromised the rights of opposition MPs.
Despite his concerns, Afenyo-Markin assured that the minority remains committed to constructive dialogue, an initiative he launched over the weekend. However, he also highlighted an alarming rise in intimidation tactics allegedly orchestrated by National Democratic Congress (NDC) members. These actions, Afenyo-Markin claimed, have created a climate of insecurity among opposition MPs.
Furthermore, Afenyo-Markin challenged the NDC’s claims of a parliamentary majority, pointing out their struggles to mobilize more than 100 MPs for sittings. This, he argued, undermines their assertion of dominance in Parliament.
On internal party matters, Afenyo-Markin reaffirmed the Minority Caucus’s commitment to unity and consensus-building. Noting that, apart from the Armah-Kofi Buah case, the minority has remained largely united on key issues.
In conclusion, Afenyo-Markin urged the Majority Leader to restore order among his members, ensuring a more structured and disciplined approach to parliamentary proceedings.
